We investigate the a theorem for nonsupersymmetric gauge-Yukawa theories to the maximum known order in the relevant perturbative expansion parameters. This leads us to an exploration of the associated function a beyond the Banks-Zaks analysis. Here, a rich fixed point structure appears, including the presence of a Banks-Zaks ultraviolet fixed point and its merging with a higher-order infrared fixed point.
