Rotational & magnetic field instabilities in neutron stars and their constraints in the equation of state

We will review the theory of neutron star instabilities due to the presence of strong magnetic fields or fast rotation. We will present the latest results in the framework of general relativistic theory, their importance for the gravitational wave detection but also their signatures in the electromagnetic spectra (gamma & x-rays). Finally, we will demonstrate how we can use these observations in constraining the neutron star equation of state.
