The Villum foundation has just granted 48 months of postdoc to the project of Francesco Sannino and Donald E. Canfield entitled “Origins”. This is also the first project granted to the recently opened Danish Institute for Advanced Study.

Project executive summary:

We aim to exploit experimental results, the use of supercomputers and our leadership position to make the next big leap in understanding the:

  • Origin of the bright and dark side of the universe
  • Origin and evolution of life on earth

These origins are separated by the energy scale at which they are expected to occur while they are strongly united by the complexity, the scientific methods, the level of ingenuity and inventiveness needed to tackle them.

What we poise to solve are considered by many among the most important problems in science.
