Abstract for the three lectures:
1) Starting from the string action, I will deduce the spectrum and the scattering amplitudes and from the scattering amplitudes the low energy effective actions: supergravity in the bulk and Dirac-Born-Infeld on the boundary.

2) Compactification on a circle and T-duality that implies both Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions for open strings. Compactification of the six extra dimensions and moduli problem.

3)Intersecting and magnetized D branes for constructing string extensions of the Standard Model.
