I will describe a series of investigations of quadratic gravity aided by a “helper” Yang Mills theory, which so far seems to have the properties appropriate for a renormalizable quantum field for gravity at all scales. There are some known pitfalls of quadratic gravity, which I will review. However, these issues do not seem to be problems in the explicit calculations which will be described.
