In the second lecture we show how the structure of the QCD low-energy effective Lagrangian need to be extended if an axion is included to solve the strong CP problem. The peculiar features of QCD unveiled in the previous analysis imply that standard calculations of the axion potential have to be revised in some interesting region of the QCD parameters. This circumstance may have an impact for axionic dark matter estimates if the topological susceptibility of pure Yang-Mills theory falls off sufficiently fast when the temperature is increased towards the QCD deconfining transition.
