Recent measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background provide strong evidence for a period of inflation, immediately following the Big Bang. We review observational evidence for and theoretical descriptions of inflation. Moreover, we will discuss how inflationary attractors can explain the recent CMB results. Finally, we argue that these observables can be understood as poles and residues of the kinetic energy of the inflation.
