Theory simulations for multi-particle processes and applications to Top Physics

The advent of new methods and tools has opened the route to precise theory calculations for a vast range of multi-particle processes at the LHC. After a brief introduction to NLO QCD calculations and their matching to parton showers, in this lecture I will present OpenLoops, an automated and fully flexible generator of one-loop scattering amplitudes. As an illustration of the physics potential that is inherent in this kind of tools, I will discuss recent applications to top-quark pair production at the LHC.
