I will discuss the impact of the large-scale structure of the universe on the propagation of gravitational waves emitted by binary systems. In particular I will show that the acceleration of the binary with respect to the observer distorts the gravitational chirp signal from the simplest General Relativity prediction. I will discuss the detectability of this effect by LISA and I will show that it can introduce a bias in the estimation of the binary parameters such as the time of coalescence and the individual masses of the binary.
