Top Precision Measurements and Searches for New Physics

The top quark, discovered in 1995 at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, is the heaviest elementary particle known today. Due to its large expected coupling to the Higgs boson, the top quark may play a special role in electroweak symmetry breaking, and is an excellent candidate to search for new physics beyond the SM. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is a top quark factory and allows us to study the properties of the top quark with very high precision. The restart of the LHC at an increased centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV this summer represents an exciting opportunity to investigate the top quark at a new energy frontier. In this talk, I present high precision measurements of top quark properties at hadron colliders and give special emphasis on how to explore them to search for new physics.
